We got a lot of input from you all over the last week about who you think would’ve been a better fit for Javert in the Les Miserables movie than Russell Crowe. A lot of Broadway people made the list, and while I love them, it’s kind of unrealistic to think they would’ve replaced Russell Crowe with a Broadway performer, but I included some of them in this voting round anyway. I tried to include some movie stars that were mentioned, so let’s see what happens with Javert.

Make your voice heard, which of these following men do you think would have been the best replacement for him?

ALAN RICKMAN

EWAN MCGREGOR

GERARD BUTLER

NORM LEWIS

PHILIP QUAST

Alan Rickman would have been an interesting choice. His voice might not be right for this specific role, but he can really act and actually sing. Would have loved to see that!

  2. khloe michelle says:

norm … that is all that needs to be said

  3. AddictedToBway says:

Norm Lewis. Forever and always. :)

  4. Val says:

    Philip Quast.

While not only a talented singer and stage performer (never actually in the States on Broadway though–much to the chagrin of many) he is also an accomplished film actor. While I don’t dislike Crowe’s interpretation, it would have been interesting and I believe rather rewarding to see how Quast would have approached the role on film.

  5. Emily says:

Why the hell is Gerard Butler on this list? He’s terrible!

Also, Earl Carpenter should be on this list. And should’ve been in the movie.

Just saying, for a site run by Broadway fans, you can’t even put together a good list of possible Javerts. That’s kind of sad.

  6. Rachel says:

    Norm Lewis.

  7. Noah says:

Norm Lewis, by far. I would have loved to see what he’d do in the movie interpretation. If you saw him in the 25th Anniversary, you know that there was virtually no blocking or choreography, yet they still managed to make every scene, song, and character phenomenal. Imagine Lewis if he was actually blocked and physically interacting with the others.

  8. Hunter Huiet says:

Norm Lewis by far! Not so sure about Ewan Mc Greggor or Alan Rickman. But why the hell is Gerard Butler on the list?

    • Alan Tanski says:

He played The Phantom in the film version of “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom Of The Opera” and I believe that was his own voice singing.

  9. Lizz says:

    Norm Lewis

  10. Judy Warner says:

I think Alan Rickman would have been incredible. I’ve seen him in so many roles and he is able to create just the right character no matter what the challenges are.

  11. Broadwayjayb says:

JEREMY RENNER! HUGE STAR AND HE CAN SING! J

  12. Debbie says:

Norm Lewis is my favorite but for the movie Alan Rickman all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Renee says:

We saw Norm Lewis in the revival. He was fabulous!

  14. Mia says:

Philip Quast is the only man who can do it justice.

  15. Mahmoud Tighiouart says:

Philip Quast, the voice, the stage presence and his piercing laser beam stares make him my favorite
