Songs for a New World has always been high up on my favorites list. As with many of my friends and probably many of you, the lyrics are so incredibly poignant to life that I can’t ignore them; not that I’d ever want to. I was talking to the team of SONGS and we decided to do this contest a little differently. We wanted you to really feel the power of this music the way we do, so the team got together and made you a little video so you could hear about each of their “one moments” before you tell us yours to win some tickets to the show!

 

But this isn’t just about the video (although those performers are KILLING it), it’s about giving away tickets to see them live. Because if it’s not live, it’s not Broadway, am I right? So here is the contest…

We want to hear about YOUR one moment. Make a short video telling us what song inspires you and what part of your life it inspires. If it’s walking around the streets of New York that makes you feel like you’re in a brand new world or maybe you just conquered something in your life and you’re feeling Not Afraid of Anything. Whatever it is, the SONGS team and I want to hear it. 

Upload your video to youtube, or vine, or twitvid, whatever! Just make sure you post a link to it in a comment below and tweet about it with the tag #1moment.

I can’t make a video, because I’m anonymous, but I’ll start us off. Here is MY #1moment story:

Every.single.time. that I hear those piano riffs and Andrea Burns starts to sing I get goose bumps. The song “The New World” is almost like an anthem for me, because I am constantly rediscovering not only myself, but this industry and the world around me. When I first moved to New York City for school, I remember that intense rush of wandering around the city, a soul in search of a place to land…the road ended in the theatre industry. I sound cliche, but New York changed everything and it constantly holds me to the promises I made when I got there. I wouldn’t let my life be boring or ordinary. But the truth is, everything can and will change in one moment. You’re always a stranger. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but there is always more to learn. You may think you know, but the truth is…you don’t have a clue. Just when I think I’m settled, the surface cracks and a new world appears for me. It’s not bad, it’s just my life. The earthquakes may continue to hit, but I’ll find my way, I know that. And this music will always be there to help, no matter how different my life is than I planned.

That said, if you don’t tear up a little listening to Jessica Rush sing Flagmaker  above…I question your soul
