broadwaysecrets

It’s no secret that I love Broadway–hello, duh. Have you seen this website? But there are some little facts about us that we keep hidden, maybe because we’re ashamed or maybe because we don’t want anyone to know about a silly habit we have. Well, I say we own those silly habits. I’m here to start us off by revealing some of my Broadway Secrets. Feel free to share them around if you have the same ones.

Number 2 is seriously one of the main reasons I love the theatre. I cry at every show at the Oveture every single time, no matter what the show. I cry during funny scenes too. I just get overwhelmed with emotion every time I’m in a theatre.

I just brought one of my friends to go see Once. It was her first Broadway show ever. It wasn’t even my first show that month (nor the first time I saw Once) but I warned her that I will cry throughout the entire show even if it’s not a sad scene. (spoiler ahead? Everyone has seen Once by now multiple times right?) As we were enjoying the pre-show at the on stage bar I look over at her and she is starting to tear up. She cried throughout the entire thing just because it was so moving to be in a theatre. She loved the show and I think I created a new theatre nerd that night.

    Number 5; totally.

I wish I could turn into a rapping machine when I listen to In the Heights. I end up mumbling things and just give up and wait until I can start “NOOOOOOOOO NO NO NOOOOOOOOO!”

And here is one I’m adding – I cannot sing. At all. I’m awful. My range is less than an octave. I so badly wish I could sing. When I am in my car alone listening to a Broadway playlist, I belt it out and pretend I can sing. I turn it up loud so I drown myself out and I convince myself I can belt like Stephanie J Block. And then I do little bits with songs like I’m singing in a concert and this is my “talking to the audience” part. Yup, that’s embarrassing but I’m admitting it anyway. I especially like to sing awful songs and make fun of them while singing them. Such as anything from Cats. I do a great Mr. Mistofolees ;)

Oh! And recently I have been going to a lot of Off-Broadway shows and I do agree that I love those theatres. So intimate!

  5. Bernadette says:

    Confession:

My monthly show budget is bigger than my monthly food budget. I don’t like going a week without seeing at least one show. :)
